Can Induction Pans Go in the Oven | What to Keep in Mind

July 17, 2022 by John Stoll Leave a Comment

With the development and use of induction cookers, people are now getting more into them. They consume less electricity, have fewer safety issues with fire, and can be used with ease.

But one certain thing is different for induction cookers, you have to use induction cookware. Although they support any cookware like stainless steel and iron-made materials, copper and aluminum cookware don’t work on them.

Can Induction Pans Go in the Oven

And besides, induction cookers are more like a fancier version of your nonstick skillet or pans. They have a nonstick coating along with the induction support facility. They also come with glass lids.

Sometimes your recipe may recall a saute on the stove or induction then finishing off in the oven. What do you do then? Can induction pans go in the oven?

We are going to talk about that in our article.

Can Induction Pans Go in the Oven With Its Lid

Like any other cookware, induction cookers are made out of metal. And boy they are made sturdy and rugged.

For this reason, you can put your induction pan in the oven with no worries at all. They can tolerate a temperature of about 400°. Which is enough for most recipes.

The thing you need to worry about is the handles and the lid. Most inexpensive induction pans come with either plastic or bakelite handles.

Bakelite handles can go in a 350° oven. Over that temperature, it will start to crumble.

Plastic is a big no for any oven. So avoid putting your pan in the oven if it comes with plastic handles.

Wooden handles tend to burn into ashes. Which is a huge loss for anyone. So it should also be avoided.

If your pan has a stainless steel handle, you can put it in the oven with no worry at all.

What to Look Out for Before Putting Your Induction Pan in the Oven

As you can put any type of induction pan in the oven, some pans don’t tend to do well. Here are a few things you should check before putting your pan in the oven.

  • Glass Lids With Plastic or Wooden Knobs

Almost all induction pans come with a glass lid. It lets you see the food you are cooking without taking it off. Which is convenient. But not all of them are oven-proof.

If your pan mentions it is oven-proof, then the glass lid can go in the oven. But if it comes with a plastic or wooden knobs, it won’t do well in the oven. It will melt or burn to leave your oven filled with fumes.

So try taking the knobs out before putting the lid in the oven or get bakelite or ceramic knobs for your pan lid.

  • Non-oven Proof Glass Lids

Not all glass lids come with heat tempering. That is why you shouldn’t put your non-oven-proof glass lid in the oven with your pan. Your pan will handle the heat nicely, but your lid won’t.

It will crack and shatter leaving you with a spoiled dish.

  • Pan Coating

Some induction pans come with an extra layer of coating. They are not oven-proof and will give out in the oven.

Read the manuals if the pan has any of those coatings that don’t act well in the oven before using them in it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my pan is oven-safe?

To know if your pan is oven-safe, you have to read the instruction manual that comes with it. If you have lost it, then you can search on the internet with the pans name and model number. It will give you the exact information about it along with the temperature it can handle.

Can a stainless steel induction pan go in the oven?

Yes. Stainless steel induction pans are just made normally with an induction usable process. Other than that, it doesn’t have anything different. But check if the lid has any plastic or knobs or if the pan has a plastic or wooden handle. If so, you cannot put it in the oven. Stainless or bakelite handle can go in the oven.

What pans can go in the oven?

Any metal pan can go in the oven. The problem is with the handles. If the handle is made out of silicone, wood, or plastic, then it should never go in the oven. Bakelite, metal, and ceramic handles are good for going in the oven.

Does induction mean oven?

No. Induction means using electric energy to heat up your cookware rather than using gas or other fuel. It is one form of an electric stove. Oven on the other hand uses insulated chambers to heat up the elements inside them.

Conclusion

A mid-range induction pan can be used in different heating stations. You can use them on stovetops, induction, and also in the oven. But the inexpensive alternative won’t give you many options to work with. So investing in good quality cookware is always a good idea. And always check for elements that are not good for the oven before putting them in the oven.
